San Antonio

Amazingly, San Antonio is only about 90 minutes away from where I live, and yet in the seven years I have lived in Texas, I have only been there twice. That includes this past weekend. The hubby’s sister and brother-in-law were in town for work so we took a short drive down to visit them.Continue reading “San Antonio”

Times are a Changing

I have been shamefully quiet this past week. The hubby and I have been juggling a lot of balls in the air these last few weeks. One of the big changes that we have been dealing with is selling our house! It is very exciting! Anyone who has moved knows how much work is involved.Continue reading “Times are a Changing”

Esther’s Follies

Esther’s Follies is an institution in Austin. It is sort of like a variety or vaudeville show. The theater is clearly a former storefront with large picture windows and the weirdest/coolest decorations. The show itself is made up of different skits. It is mostly a comedic musical of sorts based on politics and local/national news.Continue reading “Esther’s Follies”

Chinese Food, Yum!

We took my sister out to a Chinese restaurant the other night. No, not take out, and not an overly saucy Americanized version of Chinese food. Incredible and all organic Chinese food in a beautiful setting. We had traditional Shanghai soup dumplings which are amazing ( I am obsessed, but can only make at homeContinue reading “Chinese Food, Yum!”

Family BBQ

Having my sister around is a perfect excuse to get together with even more family! A first cousin, once removed and her husband live on the opposite end of Austin from us, and another first cousin twice removed recently moved here. Got that? No? Neither did I. Here’s a chart: Whatever their relation to us,Continue reading “Family BBQ”

You Could Fry an Egg on the Sidewalk

Ever heard that expression? That’s the way it’s been feeling this week. I know, I know, I live in Texas. But have you read the news this week? Or maybe you live in the Western part of the US and know what I’m talking about? Yeah. There’s a heat wave going on. I know itContinue reading “You Could Fry an Egg on the Sidewalk”

Red Eared Slider

As I looked out my window this morning I saw a movement. I had to do a double take! Is that a turtle??? Ok so there is a pond across the street, and I’ve seen turtles there before, but never have I once witnessed one on this side of the road. I was both curiousContinue reading “Red Eared Slider”

Graduation Parade

Speaking with our neighbor yesterday, she told us about a car parade that was about to happen for the local high school. What a great idea! Graduation is happening this weekend and next for many of the high schools in the Austin area. As a way to celebrate and cheer on the Seniors, they decidedContinue reading “Graduation Parade”

Breweries ( & Distilleries) Galore

Breweries and distilleries are popular for obvious reasons and in Austin, there’s practically one on every street corner. There are a lot in the city itself, but while my parents were visiting, we decided to check some out on the southern outskirts of Austin. We ended up visiting two places during the week, both inContinue reading “Breweries ( & Distilleries) Galore”

Tillie’s

Originally for my mother’s birthday we were going to take her to a restaurant called Tillie’s. We ended up rescheduling because the opera postponed due to rain, but it was totally worth it! Tillie’s is down in an area called Dripping Springs, about 45 minutes south of downtown Austin but a world away. It feelsContinue reading “Tillie’s”
