It’s a mouthful to say and delicious to eat! They are Israeli donuts. Although I had always heard of making donuts as a tradition for Hanukkah I had never tried it myself. They are deep fried just like latkes ( potato pancakes) to represent the miracle of a small container of oil lasting 8 days, hence Hanukkah lasts 8 days! The food in Jewish holidays are always very closely connected to and representative of the holiday itself. It’s pretty cool.
Since I had never made sufganiyot before I had to find a recipe online. I found a great one at onceuponachef.com, check it out!
These amazing little guys are a cross between beignets and jelly donuts. Sooooo good!! 😋

Two inches of oil-that’s a lot of oil! Fry, fry, baby! Not the prettiest. Cooling down and injected with strawberry jam. Bring on the powdered sugar! Beautiful snowfall! Cheers! Yum!
